Challenge
Ensure internal communication strategies and channels are optimal and forward thinking in alignment with the Johnsonville culture, where the business is used to build its people by helping team members learn, grow, and develop new talents.
Solution
Execute an internal communication audit (plans, programs and strategies, content, audiences and channels) and provide recommendations and appropriate tools.
Through the internal communication audit, we determined four primary takeaways that provided direction and next steps, including:
- Developed tools for internal communication to help non-communicators be as effective as possible by creating strategy, internal communication calendar, project plan, PowerPoint and Word templates.
- Provided recommendations for a new intranet platform by partnering with Johnsonville and a technology partner to develop a list of criteria to assess more than 20 platforms. Based on the criteria, we determined the top three platforms and performed a more in-depth analysis. Ultimately, Johnsonville selected and implemented a platform with some design assistance from Smith.
- Documented ideas to maintain a communication infrastructure that is driven by — and drives — The Johnsonville Way.
- Provided ideas of how to track performance (qualitative and quantitative).
